January 5, 2016

It Gets Better with the FDNY
Moderated by Brooke Guinan, Firefighter & LGBTQ Outreach Coordinator for the FDNY

Join LGBTQ members of New York City Fire Department as they talk about the FDNY’s recent video for the “It Gets Better” Campaign. Get an opportunity to ask questions about their experiences and hear them discuss why they felt this was a powerful message that needed to be heard. We invite you to join us for what we hope will be the next step in this important conversation.

Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro and the FDNY released its first ever “It Gets Better” video on October 11th 2015, National Coming Out Day, in support of the It Gets Better Project. The Project’s mission is to communicate to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning youth around the world that life does in fact get better, and to create and inspire the changes needed to continue to improve quality of life for them. In the FDNY-produced video, twelve active FDNY Firefighters, Paramedics, EMTs and a Department Chaplain discuss the challenges they faced throughout their lives and the success they have found both as adults, and as members of New York’s Bravest.
