Helping host the LGBT Expo main stage, it’s Carmella Cann!

Carmella is an American drag queen comedian, who lives and works in New York City. The actor, Michael McDerman created his character Carmella Cann in 2002.

Carmella is best known for being an outrageous, over the top, improv comedian. She has performed in many New York City venues including: Barracuda Lounge, Posh, The Duplex, Hope and Anchor, Bamboo 52, XES, and View Bar. She is best known from her nightlife days hostingWho’s On Top? At Posh, Sit or Spin at View Bar, and Confessions of a Jaded Whore at Barracuda Lounge.

Carmella Cann’s TV appearances include The Ricki Lake Show, 15 Films About Madonna, TV commercial for New York Comedy Festival, and a cameo on Virlcom. Cann’s film appearances include A Four Letter Word, and the short film’s Voodoo You Believe and It’s Me, Matthew!. On stage, Carmella appeared as the Maid in The Ring of Death at Theater For The New City. Also, Carmella had a cameo in the music videoDrunken Liar by Stanton Street Records for Singer/Songwriter, Julia Darling.

She has been known over the years to be Mistress of Ceremonies for numerous events and recently became a Wedding Officiant, in New York City.

Michael wrote the article Leading Ladies: A brief history of gay culture and its Founding Mothers, published in Next Magazine, 2006 Gay Pride issue. He has been featured in the book Straight Talk With Gay Guys by: Dayle Deanna Schwartz.

Michael McDerman was born and raised in New York City. McDerman earned a bachelor’s degree at Baruch College.
